DOG ROAST AT EASTLINE

The campfire burned up brightly, and
showed the circle round,
Of merry East Line boys and girls all
seated on the ground.
How it blazed and how it crackled, as
the sparks leaped in the air,
And the light showed up the faces of
the happy youngsters there.
As the dogs were roasting nicely, [and
the faces too they say]
The groans rose up in chorus from
Elmer Weed and Jay.
Other Weeds were there among them,
as Howard and Emily,
Also pretty Sarah, Raymond, and
their little cousin Lee.
As the groaning died away there rose
up different tunes
From Eugene, Howard, Doris, Gladys,
Bill and Florence Coons.
And by the fire slowly dying, it
was a charming sight
To see them sit in two's and enjoy the
pale moonlight.
Clancy and Marshall Denton, Dan
Murphy and Brother Ed:
The gents, George Vedder and Floyd
Raymond- Straw hats on their heads
And Kathleen Van Heusen, the
chaperone from Round Lake
Helped Mary Murphy fix the rolls
which surely " took the cake"
"Pal" Smith was rushing business,
of dogs he had alot
He put a dozen on a stick, and dropped
them in the coals so hot.
Harold Lincoln and Charles Relyea
rushing to rescue them came
Harold Bailey helped them too, all
thus won eternal fame.
From the woods there came a calling,
Lena Bailey shook with fear,
Also did Agnes English and Irene
Jennings standing near.
Ellen Van Arnum and Mary Jennings
they just laughed and thought it fun,
When they heard the boys a'calling,
"Come boss! Come boss! Come."
When the dogs and rolls were finished
and all were feeling very dry
They smelled the coffee coming and
they raised a joyful cry.
Bob Vedder sat smiling by a tree, how
happy he did seem,
He and the rest will ne'er forget
September 7th, the year '19.
